The mid-to-late fall is nice--warm enough to go around with shorts and no jacket during the day, but not too warm. It stays hot (ridiculously so, and humid) through mid-late September. Also, if you're planning on staying downtown, you should make reservations as early as possible. There's literally almost no "low" season for tourism. It is busier and more crowded in the summer, but the tourist traffic is always there, even in the winter months. I'd also recommend restaurant reservations be made as soon as you know when you are coming. Most times if we wait til the week we want to go out, there's only "before 6 or after 9:30."
