Hello LVL members,
My name is Massimo Della Valle and I’m a no-pro photographer based in Turin, Italy, with passion for street photography.
The passion for photography started when I was a kid: from 8y to 15y I had a lot of film cameras but never something really serious.
Then the GAS (gear aquisition sindrome) for camera tools disappeared until more or less I was 25, when I purchased a Fuji point&shot digital camera (I don’t remember the model) from a friend.
The Fuji served very well for many years following me during several trips around the world, then it was replaced by a fantastic Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9 equipped with a luminous and very sharp Elmarit lens (which now I passed to my 9y daughter).
In 2011 I decided that it was arrived the time to jump into the DSLR world, but while looking for the best camera to buy, I got attracted by the Sony Nex 5. It was small, with the possibility to use Zeiss lenses as well many other “vintage” lenses with an adaptor. I got it and I started taking pictures of everything.
A year later I changed it with a Nex 7 (GAS started again…) and I started also using old lenses in manual mode, such as the very nice Contax Zeiss Planar T* 50mm/1.4….. what a beatiful lens!
Months after months I was more and more interested on shooting in manual mode, understanding the basic concept of using the light………
I started looking for more information to learn how to use the camera in manual mode…… and I back to the roots of the photography……… Henry Cartier Bresson, Robert Capa, Josef Koudelka…. all this amazing photographers started with a Leica ……..
The Leica M is “the camera”, simple, nothing more than what you need….. I decided that it was the camera for me.
I got my first Leica in 2014, a brand new M-E and from that moment I cannot think about a different way to take photos.
Most of my pictures are taken with the Leica M-E (digital) and a Leica M7 Black 0.72 (film camera), which I prefer to use most of the time.
My preferred lens is the Leica Summicron-M 35mm f2 ASPH, most of the time attached to my M7 loaded with Kodak Tri-X 400.
I have also a Leica Summarit-M 50mm f2.5 (very light and sharp, nice combo with the M-E), a Voïgtlander Nokton 50mm f1.1 (fabulous bokeh, I can’t afford to buy a Noctilux!) and a Leica Elmar-C 90mm f4 (very nice for portraits).
So this is more or less all about me: if you want to know more about me or just look at my work please have a look to my Flickr
