I am looking for a bag for the Q because

The Leica Q ever ready case will not close over the screwed on hood, strange for a fixed lens camera. The holster does not protect the lens unit. Other larger bags also cannot cover the camera with the hood fitted.

Any suggestions much appreciated. I am looking for a small bag - it only needs to carry the camera with the hood fitted.

John

There are several great options for small bags.

Something like the Wotancraft Raven perhaps, on the high-end. Artisan & Artist "Evans Walker" in the mid-range. You can find a lot more from Think Tank Photo, Crumpler, etc. Search for shoulder/messenger bags or maybe even a holster.

I use a French Foreign Legion bag from the French-Indochina war that I got at the army surplus store for my M and and a few lenses.

The bottom photo shows it with two M's one with a 50 Lux and one with a CV 28 Ultron. It would be perfect for the Q, you could have it in one sleeve and put whatever other stuff on the other side.

Billingham makes 2 bags that might be suitable:

The Hadley Digital shoulder bag (8 1/4 x 5 1/8 x 8 1/4 inches).

The AVEA 5 holster (5 x 2.5 x 7 inches) is lightly padded with high-density, closed-cell foam, features press stud strap closures and is designed to fix onto a belt.

See that big wide leather strap on the bag in your first picture?

The Avea line of pouches is designed to fit on that strap. It's a great add on for smaller items.

Quite right, JD. Also, the AVEA 5 might not fit the Leica Q with the lens hood fitted.

If you are shelling out for a Hadley why not go the whole hog and look at Angelo Pelle. Even fly to Florence and have him make a special!

http://www.angelo-pelle.com/index.html

I notice he has already made a half case for the Q.....temptation...

But seriously......

I've got two Hadley's and I've had them for years and they are still looking brand new!

The small bag fits the M9 plus Summicron 50, plus Summicron 35, and Elmarit 21 and 90, and spare SD cards, note book, colour checker, visting cards, spirit level, view finder, 21 mm lenshood, wallet and i-phone.

The big one only comes out when I've got to take a Canon and couple of lens!

I'd be afraid if it did it would be too tight.

I am using a Tamarac 3394. It is small and holds the Q with hood, an SF26 flash, a spare battery and a spare SD card plus the neck strap (52" cord style). 6" x 4" x 5.5" It sells for $24.99 on Amazon. Here is a link: http://www.amazon.com/Tamrac-3394-Camco ... B002TG3NW0

Another line you might consider is ThinkTank's "Mirrorless Mover" series. The Mirrorless Mover 5 is about $35 and the Mirrorless Mover 10 is about $45. Magnestic closures make it easy to access your camera. The shoulder strap on each is removable, and the bags can then be worn on a belt.
